What is Mobile Pallet Racking?

The Mobile pallet racking comprises units of conventional pallet racking mounted on a steel-framed base. This racking system is installed over guided mobile bases that slide laterally, thus eliminating the need for aisles, which open up only when accessed.

The wheels run along a track set into the floor. Varying rack configurations and bogie types are available to suit single-bay loads of up to 15 tonnes and run lengths of up to 30 meters.

The operator gives the order to automatically open the unit, either by remote control or manually by triggering a switch. The mobile bases have motors, sliders and several safety systems to guarantee a safe and efficient operation.

Advantages of this system

  • Optimal system for cold stores (both refrigeration and freezer types)
  • Save up to 40% of the space required by conventional pallet racking
  • Each pallet is supported individually so damage from crushing is eliminated
  • Elimination of individual access aisles
  • The modular design adapts to any requirement

What is Live Storage Racking?

Live Storage racking is a system where pallets are put onto rollers at one end and they can then run down the rollers to be picked off at the other end. It is commonly referred to as a first-out system This is typically used where there are large quantities of the same product or as a load collation system in a dispatch area.

When collating loads this is typically done with lanes of either 13 pallets deep (two lanes per load) or 26 pallets deep. This system relies on gravity to move the pallets and is often referred to as gravity racking. It is a relatively expensive storage solution but can improve efficiency in many warehouses.

Different types of live storage racking systems

Live Push-Back Racking:

  • Optimised Storage Density: This system enhances storage density with a Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) inventory management system, ensuring optimal use of available space.

Live Flow Racking:

  • Efficient Order Picking: Designed for first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management, Live Flow Racking streamlines order picking operations, promoting efficient rotation of goods.

Live Carton Flow Racking:

  • Versatile Manual Picking: Perfect for dynamic storage of cartons, Live Carton Flow Racking provides an organised and controlled solution for manual picking processes.

What is Shuttle Racking?

Shuttle racking is an alternative to Drive-In racking or Live Storage Racking. The idea is that each lane is a single product but unlike drive-in racking not all products within the bay need to be the same thus allowing greater density of storage. There is also the possibility to store the pallets either on a first in last out basis or first in first out.

The racking works by using a shuttle or satellite that is placed on rails under the pallet storage rails. These shuttles then pick up the pallet and take it to its storage place. We can in certain circumstances adapt existing drive-in racking to accommodate shuttle racking.

Push Back Racking?

Push Back Racking is a high-density storage solution that maximizes both floor space and pallet count. Unlike traditional systems, it utilises a “Last-In, First-Out” (LIFO) approach, providing easy access to multiple SKUs while maintaining efficiency.

Key Features of Push Back Racking

  1. Dynamic Pallet Storage: Push Back Racking allows for the dynamic storage of pallets on both depth and height, optimising available space. The system enables you to store multiple pallets of the same SKU in a single lane.
  2. Efficient Space Utilisation: With its unique design, Push Back Racking eliminates the need for numerous aisles. This results in significantly increased storage density, making it an ideal solution for businesses with limited floor space.
  3. Time and Labor Savings: The “gravity flow” design of Push Back Racking ensures that pallets slide forward for easy retrieval. This not only enhances accessibility but also reduces the time and labor required for material handling.
  4. Customisable Configurations: Tailor the Push Back Racking system to suit your warehouse layout and product specifications. Our customizable configurations offer flexibility, ensuring the system seamlessly integrates into your workflow.

Applications of Push Back Racking

  • Temperature-Controlled Environments: Ideal for cold storage facilities, Push Back Racking efficiently stores perishable goods.
  • Fast-Moving Product Storage: Perfect for industries with a high pallet turnover rate, such as retail distribution centers.
  • Bulk Storage: Optimise your warehouse space by efficiently storing large quantities of the same SKU.

Benefits of Push Back Racking

  • Increased Storage Density: Achieve higher storage capacity compared to traditional systems.
  • Time and Labor Efficiency: Improve efficiency in material handling and reduce the need for extensive aisle space.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: Easily access and retrieve pallets from various depths without disturbing neighboring loads.

Contact us today  to discuss how Push Back Racking solutions from secondhandracking.com can transform your storage space, making it more efficient, accessible, and organised.

Advantages of this system

  • Accessibility - All lanes can be accessed from the aisle at any time irrespective of the storage level
  • Maintenance costs - Slow or fast movement of loads within lanes, requires little maintenance
  • Applications - This type of system is well suited to the task of load marshalling, allowing up to six loads to be stored in each lane. It’s also great for bulk storage and bulk handling
  • Identification - Each load in the depth can be identified by track-mounted ‘flags’ located on the access face

What is Drive-In Racking?

Drive-In racking is an ideal system for large quantities of the same type of product. It works on the principle of first in last out so is not particularly good for stock rotation. It is often possible to in practice double the racking capacity of a conventional pallet racking system.

It is a variation to block stacking. Sharing many of the same characteristics in that you have to move the last pallet to get to the next to last pallet etc. Drive-in racking can be used instead of block stacking where the pallets are likely to crush one another when stacked on top of each other.

Drive-In racking is often referred to as Deep storage which was a Dexion trade name. Drive-In racking is constructed from a collection of frames not joined together by beams hence there is a large unsupported strut especially in higher installation. Attached to these frames are rails on which the edge of the pallets sit on.

Why Choose Drive-In Pallet Racking?

  1. High-Density Storage: Drive-In Pallet Racking eliminates the need for aisles between racks, allowing for the conslidation of storage space. Experience unmatched storage density, making it an ideal solution for bulk storage of similar products.
  2. Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) System: Following the Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) inventory management system, Drive-In Racking is perfect for goods with a low turnover rate or those requiring longer storage durations.
  3. Customisable Configurations: Tailor the Drive-In Pallet Racking system to fit your specific requirements. Our customizable configurations allow you to adapt the system to your warehouse layout, product specifications, and workflow needs.
  4. Durable Construction: Crafted from robust materials, our Drive-In Pallet Racking systems are built to withstand heavy loads, providing long-term durability. Invest with confidence in a storage solution designed to stand the test of time.

Applications of Drive-In Pallet Racking:

  • Cold Storage: Ideal for temperature-controlled environments, Drive-In Pallet Racking efficiently stores perishable goods.
  • Bulk Storage: Perfect for businesses dealing with large quantities of similar products, such as manufacturing and distribution centers.
  • Warehousing: Optimise your warehouse space with Drive-In Pallet Racking for efficient storage of palletised goods.

Benefits of Drive-In Pallet Racking:

  • Maximised Storage Capacity: Achieve the highest storage density with Drive-In Pallet Racking, a cost-effective solution for businesses with limited space.
  • Reduced Aisle Requirements: Eliminate the need for multiple aisles, allowing for more racking and less floor space, maximising storage efficiency.
  • Improved Stability: With its robust design, Drive-In Pallet Racking provides stability for heavy loads, ensuring the safety of your stored goods.
