In the current climate where everyone is attempting to have a green solution and not to waste resources buying second-hand racking is of benefit to the environment.

We at secondhandracking.com take our environmental responsibilities seriously. However, we also realize that whatever we do needs to be safe but also just as important economically viable. It is often said that having a green solution is a rich person’s luxury (organic food is more expensive as is green energy).

In the real world unless government legislates on green issues than for any company to survive the environmentally friendly option must also make economic sense. This economic sense might be in customer perception or it might be because something is cheaper or more efficient.

With second-hand racking, it is generally cheaper. However, we at secondhandracking.com offer more than just lower cost racking solutions we also aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

We do this in a number of small ways.

We provide an On-Line Pallet Racking Design Tool

We provide an online pallet racking design option, free of charge, which can give accurate costings and initial design features online. This can generally save the need for initial site visits. This saves a small number of exhaust emissions but also saves you the customer time. However, should it become apparent that a site visit is necessary we are more than happy to come to the site to ensure that the solution offered is correct.

Making the most of your existing pallet racking

When looking for a potential supplier of warehouse racking, many clients will contact maybe 2, 3 or 4 of the major racking manufacturers. They believe, whether rightly or wrongly, that they will get a better deal dealing with a pallet racking “manufacturer”. However, it should be remembered that the racking manufacturer is represented by an employed salesperson who is targeted to sell new products manufactured by that manufacturer. This generally means selling new products not reworking existing products. While we would not suggest that you never talk to a racking manufacturer we believe you should always discuss your requirements early with an independent supplier of racking.

What about refurbished racking?

Often refurbished racking is referred to re-painted racking. We would strongly recommend against this type of racking. Painting can just hide the rust and you are better off seeing any rust that is there and not hiding it. However, what we mean by refurbished is taking the existing racking that may be on-site and making it work. This could mean just re-organizing it, re-bracing or strengthening by inserting a newer heavier duty section at the bottom. It is worth considering all options before buying new ones.
