Hemway – Bespoke Storage Solution
Hemway is an eCommerce business well known for its wide range of Craft, DIY, Automotive, Nail, Cosmetic and Paints. Operating in both the UK (Leeds) and the USA, they are globally trusted and recognised by their customers for the quality of our products and service.
Project Scope
With a wide range of stock items to be picked by hand, Hemway approached secondhanddracking for a bespoke storage solution to fully optimise the storage space in the warehouse to store its palletised stock, as well as a fast and accurate order picking solution.
Challenge
Hemway like many suppliers with increased internet sales direct to the end customers have a far greater need to pick small quantity orders and yet store palletised goods. Within the warehouse space that Hemway had they could not create the number of pick locations they needed without reducing significantly their pallet storage capacity.
Understanding the customer needs Secondhandracking worked closely with Hemway to come up with a design to increase capacity and efficiencies using what is commonly known as “tunnel racking”.
Solution
The solution was to maximise the palletised storage with pallet racking and picking shelves at a lower level with a tunnel underneath doubling the number of pick faces. This design needed technical input as the pallet weights above were not equally distributed throughout the racking uprights.
The technical team at Secondhandracking, who have over 25 years experience with Link 51 racking planned and designed a bespoke system to meet Hemway’s requirements. They installed Link 51 racking with new pallet racking frames, and good quality safety approved used beams giving a technically sound but economic solution.
The racking was arranged around a Flexi truck minimising fork truck aisles. The bottom locations are used for order picking, so beam levels vary to enable the greatest number of product lines to be stored and so they were within easy reach of the warehouse operatives.
