What are racking inspections are why are they important

Ensuring racking safety is essential for any company with a pallet racking system installed. Regular inspections by a qualified professional help maintain a safe warehouse environment. Depending on usage, racking surveys should be conducted at least annually, and in many cases, every six months.

While guidelines may seem vague, responsible companies typically implement routine internal walk-around inspections. In addition, they schedule professional external racking inspections—often referred to as SEMA inspections—on an annual or biannual basis. These inspections provide reassurance that the racking is being monitored for safety.

Why do you need a rack inspection?

Compliance & Safety Regulations
Whilst there is no legal requirement to have your racking inspected, however to ensure workplace safety and to prevent accidents, regular inspections should be part of your health and safety procedures, following the guidance of industry standards and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment. The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommend inspections need to be carried out by competent personnel who are familiar with the relevant safety standards and guidelines, such as SEMA (Storage Equipment Manufacturers' Association) guidelines, which provide recommendations for the inspection and maintenance of storage equipment, including pallet racking.
