Buying warehouse racking and shelving is not something that most people do on a regular basis and some input in the warehouse design is welcome. As well as holding stock approaching £.5m in our Leeds warehouse we have a very experienced project design team. Our project team will look at your requirements from the beginning and come up with the best solution offering new and or used equipment. Our project team staff have years of experience in coming up with the best solution not the solution that is best for us.
We are independent and not tied to what products we sell unlike the vast majority of racking project companies. The market is split into various categories:
On the face of it this would appear to be the lowest cost solution as there is “no middle man” and we would recommend getting a price from a manufacturer, we are not frightened of the competition, but a manufacturer is obviously interested in selling their own manufactured products. There are some points you should consider:
• The best manufacturer of one type of racking system e.g. pallet racking is not necessarily the best at all systems e.g. shelving.
• The manufacturer will not offer perfectly good used equipment as they are under pressure to sell new product.
• Factory prices can vary based on the volume of business that manufacturer has at any one time and during a lengthy design process this factory capacity can change.
Independent stocking distributors
These are traditional distributors with a warehouse with stock of new product and may include used equipment. Be wary of any who state they are a SEMA distributor group company as they are not allowed to consider offering used equipment as a condition of their SEMA membership. They cannot therefore consider all options.
Independent non stocking agents/consultants/distributors
These are very much like the stocking distributors but keep minimal stock of spare parts or any at all. Again be wary of those that are SEMA Distributor Group members (SDG) also be wary of those that display the SEMA logo who aren’t members. Many companies in this category will include the SEMA logo on their drawings, websites and load signs. If they are not a SEMA member and they display this logo they are being dishonest.
Fork lift truck companies
Many people contact their fork lift truck company to get advise. Again there is nothing wrong with this but certainly most will be tied to particular manufacturer and each manufacturer will have an edge in one type of truck. After years of experience we can normally predict which truck manufacturer will recommend which solution.
